Indian snacks for kids are usually treated like the poor country cousins and are sidelined for the fancier American or European ones.
However, there are pearls hidden among these and a little bit of dressing-up and smart thinking by the parents can definitely rescue the lost glory of the Indian snacks.
Snacking is a very essential part of kids’ routine and contributes significantly to their nutritional needs. All the more reason, one should consciously try to make snacks that are not only delicious and innovative but also healthy.
So what is healthy food for kids?
Healthy food is one which does not compromise on the wellbeing of the person eating it, kids and adults alike.It is full of vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, proteins, carbs and all essential nutrients.

Besan Bread
An easy-peasy, quick and incredibly delicious snack, besan bread can be made in less than 15 minutes and never fails to get the kids drooling.
All you need to do is soak some besan in water, add finely chopped onion, capsicum, garlic, ginger and coriander leaves. To this batter add salt, pepper, cumin powder, a little chilli powder and some mango powder. Whisk together to ensure no lumps remain. Now dip a slice of whole wheat bread in the batter and shallow fry in a pan.The besan bread is ready to be devoured. Serve hot with chutney, ketchup or your kid’s favourite barbecue sauce.
Cheese Dosa
This one is an all-time favourite, with kids and adults alike.Amazingly easy to make, it sits equally comfortable on the tongue and is gobbled up in no time at all, with loud requests for more!
Take some homemade or a recommended brand’s dosa batter. Ladle a big spoon on the pan and spread in a circular motion. Put a teaspoon or so of garlic butter and sprinkle some grated cheese. You can also sprinkle some herbs. Let cook for a minute and flip the dosa. Let the other side cook for a minute, and the mouth-watering cheese dosa is your kid’s to demolish!
Serve hot with coconut chutney and bask in your child’s appreciation!
